Cash is tight at Dallas Fire-Rescue so they're going to start renting some fire trucks because that's cheaper than buying them.

Dallas is planning to rent trucks because it doesn't have enough working vehicles in its fleet. Commanders say they have at least nine trucks out of commission for mechanical problems or because of damage from crashes.

Plus, several rigs were damaged when they became submerged while fire crews were rescuing people who nearly drowned in last month's flash flooding.

Reports say two rented ladder trucks could arrive before the end of the week.

Dallas Fire Chief Dominique Artis says some of the issues with getting the damaged rigs back on the road include persistent supply chain shortages and, even if parts can be obtained, there's a lack of mechanics who can do this kind of work.

This is one of a string of budget constraints that have been worrying the Dallas Fire Fighters Association in recent years.
