One person is dead after a fire suppression foam release occurred at Wilmington Air Park Sunday afternoon, according to the Ohio State Fire Marshal.
The incident occurred in Hanger 1006. It is not known what caused the foam release but it was not a fire, said Pam Bauer, Clinton County Public Information Officer.
Bauer said Wilmington Fire Department responded to the incident and were notified of multiple injuries, two individuals trapped in a vehicle in the hanger and one unaccounted for individual.
Tim Law, 55, an airborne area maintenance supervisor, was the missing person who died, Bauer said. The two individuals trapped in the vehicle were rescued.
Eight first responders were transported for medical care after suffering eye injuries, electrocution and other injuries, Bauer said. They have all been released from the hospital since.
Bauer explained that search operations had to pause shortly after Wilmington Fire arrived at the scene due to safety, but continued after several other fire and EMS agencies arrived.
Rich Corrado, president and CEO of Air Transport Services Group, said the incident reiterated the importance of safety.
"Safety and training are part of our culture, and incidents such as what happened in Hangar 1006 yesterday validate that focus," Corrado said.
The Ohio State Fire Marshal is continuing an investigation of the incident.
