A young girl in Erlanger, Kentucky is the newest honorary city fire chief.

Harper who has been battling illness was named the honorary chief for the day at the Erlanger Fire Department.

Erlanger Fire Lt. James Bloom said the department heard Harper was a big fan of firetrucks so they wanted to surprise her with a day at the fire station.

Harper was given a tour of the station as well as a ride on the fire truck. She even got to put out her own fire!

"She had no fear," Bloom said.

Bloom said the crews set up a "prop" fire in the back of the fire house and called in the fire while Harper was riding on the truck.

She then rode to the back of the fire house and helped put out the flames.

Bloom says they then set up a lunch and ate together where Harper became "part of the family."

The fire department even gave Harper her very own pink firefighter hard hat, which Bloom says she now takes everywhere.

"Harper you are strong, you are loved, you are tough, you are brave and you are a fighter," the fire department said in a Facebook post.

Erlanger Fire/EMS named our newest honorary Chief for the day. Chief Harper and her family stopped by and spent the day with the crew at Station 3.

Chief Harper was given a tour, received training pulling hose lines and then the crew cooked a full meal for the honorary Chief and her family. We are Harper STRONG!
