A yoke coupling made up of cast iron and brass in such a manner that it is non-breakable and indestructible has recently been placed on the market by the H. W. Clark Co., of Mattoon, Ill., manufacturers of numerous water works appliances. Its use is in the place of the meter coupling and it is adapted to installation in meter boxes of all kinds and also to meters placed in basements. The Clark Meter Coupling Yoke is made up without the use of a union or right and left fitting, there being sufficient flexibility in the riser pipes, owing to the manner in which the meter is cut in to permit the assembling of the two parts of the coupling yoke after each has been screwed on to the riser pipe. It can be noted from the accompanying illustration that the meter coupling yoke is placed by cutting into the line without taking out a section therein, a single cut being all that is necessary. When the pipe is cut in two, the ends are bent by means of a bar, lever or a spade, opening them in opposite directions sufficient to admit the meter between the risers in a crosswise position or at an angle of 90 degrees with the line of the service pipe. Much time is saved by this operation, which has the following advantages: The coupling up of the meter coupling yoke is accomplished without the use of a union or right and left thread, being placed crosswise of the line; the risers are held perfectly rigid so that they cannot swing in either direction, thus eliminating all possibility of a meter or riser pipes coming in contact with the wall of a box body and thus conveying frost to the meter; a ready and easy sliding adjustment is had for taking care of meters of different lengths, and all expansion and contraction of the service pipe is readily taken care of; the lock shield adjusting screw construction, requiring a special socket key to operate, eliminates the necessity of sealing the meter, although if a wire seal is desired in connection with the screws at the top of the meter, the same wire can readily be extended around any part of the yoke, and a single seal used for the entire installation. The Clark Meter Coupling Yoke will accommodate meters of every manufacture. It is made in sizes 5/8-in., 3/4-in., and 1-in., and is also made in a special size of 5/8-in., to accommodate meters with 3/4-in. spuds. The Clark Meter Coupling Yoke is particularly well adapted to use in the South, where the meter is placed on a line with the service. It carries in such installation all the advantages as above described and instead of a riser, as shown, street ells may be connected on to the service pipe and screwed into the coupling, being assembled without the use of union or right and left fittings. The construction is such that stop cocks may be used inside of the meter box in connection with the coupling yoke when desired. For use in basement connections, the Clark Meter Coupling Yoke is furnished with tappings in the top on one end for outlet side of house supply. The Clark Company will be pleased to furnish illustrations, specifications and price on request.
